Spyder color cabrators comparison

O.K., so I ran a search and although I found some useful information, I didn;t see the answer to my particular question.

To wit: Spyder Express ($114) vs Spyder Pro4 ($169). So what do I get for the extra bucks? Is the difference in price worth it?

While looking at the webpage for the SpyderExpress,

http://spyder.datacolor.com/portfolio-view/spyder4express/

click on the 'Product Comparison' tab, about 1/2 way down the page.

The product comparison seems to favor the Pro4. I'll lean that way while awaiting further responses.

I can't provide information regarding a comparison, however I just purchased and used the spyder 4 with undetermined results.

The instructions are straightforward, but you must provide detailed information about your computer for accurate results.

I was supprised about the correction on my screen, i.e. much warmer than before.

I then occured to me after several prints that there are more variables to consider for the results you're looking for. You have to take into consideration your paper choice, ICC color profile, contrast, brightness, for each selection of paper you want.

This tool is not the all in one answer to you image accuracy.

I'm not sorry for my purchase. I will continue to tweek my tools for the results I'm looking for. It's all good.

No, a colorimter is not the end-all/be-all of color management.
But it DOES remove one VERY significant variable from the equation.
If you're really serious about workflow color management, there are learning resources both at DataColor (Spyder) or Xrite (ColorMunki). Both have printer management solutions, and bundles for complete display/printer management.

Honestly, only you can make that decision. Are the extra color temps, gamma settings, ambient light measurement, recalibration wizard, and the ability to upgrade to calibrate your TV worth an extra $55, to YOU?

The fact that you want to start with a known quantity monitor which will make a HUGE difference in your workflow, is the biggest plus.

You make a good point - about the extra abilities gained from the Pro4, and that is what I needed to know.

Thank you for the advise. I have since researched and studied DataColor resources and spoke to Lightroom Tech reps to address my objective to include Soft Proofing, Intent, and more. I am more than satisfied with the results. Thanks again.
