My daughter is seeking to make her first digital camera purchase and has her eye on a referb Nikon D3200, 24.2 MP with a 18-55 Nikkor zoom lens. Price $449. Vendor KEH Camera in Smyrna, Ga. Anyone have any comments on her selection, price or seller? Recommendations on other sellers? Thanks

KEH comes highly recommended by several of the members here and many more prefer refurbs over new since they are thoroughly checked over. If it fits her budget she might as well get it. She can learn and grow with it in her photography.

KEH has an excellent reputation. They are one of, if not the best, site for used equipment and they are a Nikon dealer.

Some other online retailers frequently mentioned favorably are Adorama, B&H Photovideo, Cameta Camera, and fredmiranda.com.

The D3200 is a very good beginner's camera for DSLR. You can't beat the 24.2 mp sensor for that price.

Adorama had the same set up for $399 at the holidays. This is a great first camera.

I would not hesitate to purchase a "refurb" from a reliable vender (of which KEH is) for a second. The D3200 is, as stated, an excellent choice for a starter, since it's very user-friendly and easy to learn. The 18-55, while not a very "exciting" lens, is a great way to get going, and doesn't stretch the budget.
I purchased a refurb D5100 a couple years ago, and have absolutely no regrets. I believe it is better than new, being thoroughly tested by qualified technicians, rather than simple "line-workers".

I personnally have very good feed back for KEH, I bought a refurb 55-200 nikkor zoom with all the bells and whistles, [VR, ETC]. It came quickly, I only paid $150. It did not work very well, was noisy, they quickly shipped a newer, better one, no questions, even before they got the other one returned.
