import photos to lightroom need some advise

I have LR4, and you know I usually play safe that I do not delete the photos from last shooting from my SD, just in case I can still get the files again.
But on the other hand when I import the files for my last batch, some of the photos that is not good, I will delete it from the LR library.
the problem is when I import the new batch, although I enable the check for duplicate, it will say the one that I delete from the library need to import again. this case I always has to manually uncheck them first.
I wonder is there a better way to handle this.
or I should just delete all the photos from the last batch.
any suggestion welcome.

Try making a "not good" folder and move the imperfect ones there.

This is because what is in the library is not the same as what you have on the card. When deleting from the library, even if you delete from disc, that only deletes from your drive storage not the card.

I would suggest that you archive your files to an external drive, allowing yourself to work from there. If you wish to use your SD card as an archive I would recommend that it not be used again after a shoot. That said, the use of the latter method would be very expensive, even more than using an external drive.

Once you have actually imported the photograph to your computer, and verified that you have good files, I'd suggest that you format the card in camera and not use it to store photos. But that's just my personal thought on this issue.

Good luck!

I like this idea to make a not good folder,
after a while, I should have delete the old photos in my SD too, then all the problem solve.
thanks for the good advise.

You can set your camera to make a new folder for each day you shoot. Then when you specify which folder you are importing, it's just dealing with pictures from that day, not stuff you've already taken care of.

This is one of the two solutions to problem. All you have to do is to remember to do it. Unfortunately, LR ignores the folders on the SD so you have to copy that folder to your computer and then import it into LR.

The second solution is that when the pictures on the SD appear on the import screen of LR, click "Uncheck all" beneath the main screen. Then, click on the photos you want to import. Make sure you sort the files by capture date or file name.

In any event, do not delete photos from the SD. I suggest using only two cards. When the first is full, use the second one. Once that is full and you need a new card, delete the first and use it. The reason is that you do not want to delete something accidentally that you may want later. Unless you have a compelling need, do not buy a third card because then you will want to buy even more and before you know it, you cannot find anything. And make sure you backup your computer daily.

I agree. Once your photos are safely on your computer/external hd, simply reformat your card in your camera and start anew with a clean card.

I only import from a HD folder in LR, so I didn't realize it would do it differently for an SD card.

In Setup Menu 1, there is the Select Folder option, which includes the Select and Create choices.

Here is what I do when importing from a card that has both new and previously imported files on it.
In the Import module of Lightroom, all of the files on the card will show up as thumbnails. Scroll down to the bottom till the last thumbnail shows up. Left click on the last thumbnail. Then scroll up till the first thumbnail of the NEW photos shows up. Do a Shift/Left Click on the first new photo. This should highlight (pick) all of the new photos. Now go to the bottom and click on "Uncheck All". Next, go the the upper left corner of ANY of the highlighted thumbnails and click on the little dark square. This will put a "check" in all of the highlighted thumbnails. Finally click on the "Import" button at the lower right corner of the Import module screen.
Hope this helps!
