High James the link Ametha gave you is a very good starting point. Listen to what Captain C tells you he is one of the masters on this forum for lighting. P.S. since you shoot some of the sports at your high school look at some of Captian C high school sports shots, he has set up some really cool sports shots, and before you even get to college your photography will be better then some pros.

Thanks everyone. What I was wanting help with was finding a way to put the lights and backdrop together since I have never done it before and it did not come with directions. I looked around on the internet and I did find out how to put it together. But as stubborn as I was I spent a hour before actually looking it up.

Sorry these samples are lacking.

I also have more than 3 backdrops, I've invested in my business and myself with high quality materials and equipment. A green screen and digital backdrops have no place in my studio.

Personally, for a beginner, I think the green background is the worst choice you could have made. If you are going to do extractions, gray is FAR superior and for general portrait work a solid gray will be quite versatile. Ditch that green and get something more practical.

As to setups, there is no one setup - you need to buy some books on studio lighting, search the web for tutorials, and do some experimenting. No one answer on a forum will be the best for you. I could sit here and type to three days and still not cover all you need to know for just the basics.

Have fun with this and play, experiment and study. And get rid of that crap green.

Yes I agree. I never planned on using the green. It came with the kit. I also got a white, and a black background that came with the kit. I plan on investing money in more backdrops. I do know what your talking about with the greys. Many photographers I talk with have told me the same thing. If you happen to run across a few good backdrops please give me a link so I can take a look. They don't just have to be grey. it can be anything you think works well with portraits. And believe me I will get rid of the green background aka *green crap*

Have you thought about seemless paper? It's great for beginners as it doesn't wrinkle like fabric does (less post work) and when it gets dirty or tears you just tear off the offending piece and zoila you have a clean backdrop again.

When I did happen to get the lighting kit setup no one wanted their picture taken so I photographed my English bulldog.

my sister wanted to be in a couple of them.

That's why I recently told AntonioReyna that his pictures weren't about his camera, but about knowing how to shoot portraits and getting pretty women to pose for him. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/tpr?p=2951421&t=174417

Now you get to work on those skills. You have the advantage that you're part of the "facebook selfie" world, and if you can make them look better than their cell phones. you win. :-)
