Is he doing ok? Do they usually hang out that far north in the winter? How about you? Are you going to freeze in the marsh? (p.s. thank you for checking in on him :)

All legitimate questions Carla. Since Mandarins aren't native to North America at all, this has to be either an escapee or a feral duck. There is a possibility that he was hatched under a Mallard. It's happened before. (Mergansers are famous for that.)

It was -20 at the marsh so I stayed for just a few minutes. It's hard to tell what condition he's in but all I can do is check on him as often as I can.
As for me? Darn right I'm cold out there but I'll make it.
Thanks for your concern. Cheri shakes her head a lot but she understands.

He is indeed. The whites didn't take much adjustment. I moved the contrast slider a lot though.

He is so beautiful...but he has to be so, so cold. I hope you both stay safe and warm.

Glad you told us about your deft handling of the contrast slider. I was asking myself "how'd he do this??????"
I am not getting exif data using this ipad and I'm curious about your exposure The finished image is pretty neat PP.
What did you pull out of of your bag of tricks to accomplish this -- your shooting menu that is.
And oh yes, very important, what were you wearing to keep from freezing to death? Surely not hip waders? I tried that years ago, they filled up with icy water and I darn near drowned. LOL.

Oh my goodness! I don't know which is the most unbelievable...the shot of this beauty or your being out in -20 deg weather. I guess it's a toss up, and I'm concerned for you both!!! ;-)
