Allen's Camera in PA is excellent as well.
I agree with the other posts that you can't go wrong with B&H, Adorama or Calumet. There is a Calumet store in Philly and my experience with their Oak Brook, IL store was always good. (I lived across the street from their store much to my wife's concern). Their prices are generally competitive with B & H.

Thanks Guys, I did find a small " Local " store that said they would " Match " the B&H price ( Who is having a sale now )
isn't there a Calumet in Philly? They are big like B&H-Adorama and multistore like Hunt's. If you want Nikon all dealers sell for what Nikon says they can sell for. If there is a sale on Nikon it is a Nikon sale and you can get the sale price from all Nikon dealers not just B&H

I too believe strongly in supporting local brick & mortor stores wether for photography or anything else. Without support these stores go out of business and to me there is nothing like shopping in person where I can put my eyes and hands on something. This played into to my decision to switch systems from canon to sony. The sony just felt better in my hands. To me personally its worth a few bucks more. And since we are name dropping I live in the Dayton,Oh area and I shop at the "Dodd" camera stores. Ive kept my mouth shout since I joined this forum when someone has raved about how great and wonderful B&H is, well when I switched to sony I called them to inquire about the tamaron 70-200mm 2.8. The guy I spoke to seemed uninterested and uninformed. My 2 cents worth

I am looking for a Company to purchase a Nikon D 800 Body from, can any one out there recommend a Reputable
Store ! ( B&H ) N.Y. ? And No ! I don't mind paying a little more for a store, that will offer excellent service and support.
PS. Bye the way, Thanks Guys for all the feed back on lens
selection for the D 800.
Hunts photo in Massachusetts they were the great with all my d600 issues.

I got mine from Cameta but Adorama, Hunts, and Abes of Maine are all equal IMHO.
If you want to save about $500 you might consider a Nikon refurbished one. All the Nikon refurbs I have bought came in new condition. The first two above provide an extended one-year warranty for free or a small charge. The warranty on Nikon refurbs in only 90 days otherwise. That said I have never had to use it. Refurbs have been better checked out than new.

I purchased many items from B&H this year and finally got screwed on my last $1000 purchase . If they offer you reward points or rebate , get it in writing!!! Before you pay!
Reward points do have an expiration period. The date is stated in the email they send you.
Adorama is the same way.

I live in the burbs, not far from Longwood Gardens, but I drove to Lansdale and bought my D800E from Cardinal Camera. I bought from them because I was able to negotiate an excellent trade-in payout for my D300S and my DX lenses. Cardinal has very recently acquired all the old Ritz stores, but I'd only work with the Lansdale store. Ask for Kurt; he's the owner. He may not be there, but they pay attention when you mention his name.
My second choice, the place where I spend lots of money just because they have the most knowledgeable sales force in the region, is the Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr. Their prices are on the high side, but the service and staff make up for that. Mention my name there.
My third choice would be Allen's in Levittown. Now, for me Levittown is a l-o-n-g drive, but this is a store that's worth going to just to see it. From the outside it looks like a rinky-dink strip mall store that you wasted your time driving to. But then you get inside and feel like you're Alice and you just slid down the rabbit hole and landed in Wonderland. It has the largest inventory of equipment of any store outside of NYC. Their staff are very nice and very helpful.
Finally, Calumet down on Columbus Blvd is a high end store. Their staff are very helpful and they have a nice selection. I don't know why I don't rate them higher, but they seem too, too, upscale prissy for my taste.
Good luck. And no matter what, try a visit to Allen's one of these days. It's Nikon Nirvana.

pelagic440,
I have used B&H and Adorama. Bought most from B&H and never ever disappointed. Their people are all quite knowledgeable and I have never been steered in the wrong direction - used them for many, many years. Good service, usually free shipping, and prices are all comparable to other reputable dealers mentioned by people in this Forum Topic.
I also had good service with Adorama, but just don't seem quite as friendly and knowledgeable as B&H, IMHO.
I also recommend dealing with a local store if possible and the price is right. Right now I deal with Samy's in Santa Barbara, CA or Cameraworks in Colorado Springs, CO. At both stores the people I deal with go out of their way to make sure I am a happy customer. Prices are fair and if I go in with a problem or a question the staff is more than happy to make sure I am happy. I also like B&H, Adorama and other stores mentioned here by others and have dealt with them before with good results. But nothing compares with face to face service.

I bought my D800 from Crutchfield, so I didn't have to pay taxes in N.Y. In adition, I earned enough points to pay for most of a new car radio.
I would like to agree with Cholly,if you have a local Brick and Mortar store their prices will be very close and if you want them to stay open you need to support them.I live in an area where the closest camera dealer is 65 miles away. I buy there as much as possible if they go out of business it would be mail order only.

But .... consider the sales tax ... none from b & H
No sales tax here in Oregon....
Although I have purchased from B&H when my local brick and mortar did not carry items I was looking for-- and from KEH for used gear (same reason). I've bought three of my last four lenses, and last DLSR from the local store. They also have a film outlet and do quality processing/printing.
Agree with Cholly....

Support your local store...keep them in business so when you need cleaning and incidentals you still have a loca store to go to. B&h an Adorama are great but you have to ship. A new camera will be the same from any of them. Have fun...I have both thecD800 and the 800 e...love them!
