When travelling, I change my SD card every 5 days. As I left Athens, my SD card showed an error so I immediately put in another one. Returning home, I had the card looked at ($89) which had to be paid whether or not the files could be retrieved or not.
I want to do my usual iPhoto or Blurb memory book but as Athens was my first stop, that part will be blank. Thought I might download a pencil sketch into the book with text saying what happened.
Would anyone know a web site that I could get a sketch from?
Thanks
LR
Sorry to hear about your problem, but I have to say why change your SD card so often. I think this had caused your problem, constant insertion/reinsertion is not a good habit. Personally I RARELY remove my SD card from my camera, there no reason to do so. unless you want to replace it.

Baloney.
The cards and sockets are designed for thousands of insertion cycles.
There are plenty here that do just that to download their images.

I have never heard that insertion/reinsertion of a card is a problem. I use a card reader to copy images off my cards, so they get taken in and out all the time. And if a session needs more than one card, there really isn't a choice.

Have you sent your card for the retrieval attempt?
Did the card show an error in the camera, or in the computer?
If it was in the camera, have you tried to access it on the computer?
There is data recovery software you can use, usually in the $20-40 range, which can recover files from the more common card errors. The filenames may be completely lost, and some of the images may be corrupt, but if it can do anything, it will probably recover almost all of your pictures.

I constantly remove and reinstall my memory SD Cards. Never had a problem with any of them on many Nikon and Kodak cameras. I use Transcend and SanDisk Cards ONLY. They come with lifetime guarantees and I have never had to use it.
As far as the O P. Did you try a free program called Recuva by Piriform before shelling out all that $$$$. It works quite good at recovering lost data on chips.
That's up to them, I say again it is not a good habit unless you are very careful.

If I hadn't been changing my cards every 5 days, I would have lost the other 2500 images. I was very fortunate to have caught it in time.

Is there a reason you didn't put the card in your computer to see what was there instead of paying somebody $89? They apparently saw you coming a mile down the road with dollar bills dropping out of your pants pockets.
Unless the card blew out completely because it was damaged by something severe, which is unlikely if it was just in the camera, there should be photos on it that you can recover with "Recuva" free software on a PC.
