Rural Central Texas on a Cloudy Sunday

Here are a couple of HDR landscapes I got yesterday when I saw that the cloud cover was pleasing. 95% of the time, it seems to be clear and blue skies here, great weather but not as interesting for HDR landscapes. I read a blog recently where one guy drove his wife nuts because he couldn't pass a rundown barn or farmhouse without stopping and taking pics. He said they had character. I set out to find something like that and within 20 minutes of my house in urban Austin, voila, there it was. Here are a couple of shots taken with an 18-55 Nikkor lens mounted on a D5200 on a tripod. They were all taken within a space of 50 yards from each other.
A few more are at this link: https://plus.google.com/photos/103425019225851329391/albums/5963194512692580785?authkey=CN6cmdLnoe-2cA

Hope you enjoy them!

Thanks, that's the look I usually go for. I was halfway done shooting when I realized even though I was in Aperture Priority mode, I had left ISO set at 1000 from a previous night time shoot. The pics got much better after I backed it down to ISO 100. I broke a cardinal rule, always check your settings!

Great set, Mr PC. Good processing job.

On the first shot, you've got those blankety-blank highwires and pole in there. Watch for them and try to find a viewpoint to exclude them. It might be next to impossible but try. If they insist on being in the photo, then get rid of them later.

I hope you didn't stop with the large landscape shots and got some of the detail shots from the house.

Keep up the good work. :-D

Actually, I shot that picture just about exactly that way on purpose, just for you! I felt the wire kind of led the eye over to the picture by framing it on that side. I could've gotten rid of 'em, but because I'm only really trying to please myself, that's what I did. I also made a seto of these in back and white and I really like them. I was out at this same location last week and it's 4 feet high in weeds around the dilapidated house and 4 foot corn in the fields. What a difference! Thanks for looking and the kind comments.

You're absolutely right to shoot to please yourself. The only time you should shoot to please someone else is when you're being paid for your work and time. Then you shoot it the way they want. But, after you shoot their way, shoot it again your way and offer them a choice.

Please don't get me wrong, I do like your work a lot. You're shooting the same type of photo that I like to shoot.   These were just suggestions for you to consider.

Thanks again for the kind words. Couldn't get any closer to the house for fear of trespassing. I did want to zoom in on the toilet in the front yard, but thought better of that too. Your roaming eye has to notice it.
