By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Loved the bridge photos and the poetry really enhanced it. Hope you post more of that on here.

I am a Revolutionary War re-enactor and volunteer at the park and the bridge as a historical interpreter so you will probably see many more images s time goes on.

Thank you.

Thanks James. I do feel fortunate to be able to share my knowledge of the events of April 19, 1775 at the Bridge

This is the 5th bridge to span the Concord River. There was no bridge here from 1793 to 1875. In 1875 the Minute Man Statue was erected and the bridge rebuilt at that time.

Daniel Chester French was just 23 years old when he agreed to do the statue for the Town of Concord. He said he would do it for just his expenses.

Congress donated seven Civil War cannons which were melted down and used to cast the statue.

Mr. French went on to further fame with the staue of Abraham Lincoln in Washington, D.C.
