I have a Canon 60D with the following lens:
1. Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
2. Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC MARCO OS HSM
3. Canon 50mm f/1.8

I just brought the L lens. I don't know if this lens is wide enough & long enough. I do know this lens is better than the Sigma.

Thanks in advanced for you help.

Me personally would take the 18-250. How do you like this lens? I also have a 60D and have the older 18-250 Sigma, but was thinking of getting the newer version as there is a great sale going on. Ray.

I like the Sigma. Last month I took it to Hawaii. Overall the pictures came out very good. I brought the L lens because I always want a L lens. The pictures looks sharp but it doesn't have the coverage as the Sigma.

If you're satisfied with the quality, take the Sigma for the versatility. I envy you going to the Parade. Are you going to the game, too? I grew up going to Michigan games with my Dad, who played there from 37-39. Harmon was a teammate. Mom sent him on an alumni Rose Bowl trip one year and I was really upset that I didn't get to go. It would have been a great trip.

Take a picture of Tessanne Chin. She was the winner of the 'Voice' competition and she is supposed to be in the parade. Post so I can see how good the lens is.Lol. Ray.

I would not be able to resist using the new lens. You know, new toy thing. I think the nifty fifty would also be fun to use.

You'll want to be able to zoom into details on the parade floats and will want the longest lens as well as something wide to capture the spectacle. You'll also want the IS as you won't be able to use perfect shooting form in the crowd.

My best parade shots came once with an IS enabled lens mounted to a monopod with a cable remote control. I could raise the camera over my head and crowd and shoot closer to eye level as the floats went by.

I'd go with the Sigma if only one lens. Knowing how small / light the 50mm is, I'd find a pocket to pack that lens into as well...

I was there last year. I would take the 18-250, the floats are big and long. The maintenance team (sweepers) are also entertaining.

Enjoy It's cold in the morning but the sun will be out.

Do you have two cameras? Is your wife going? Put the L lens on the second camera and let her pass cameras back and forth to you. Never switch lenses.

I'm surprised his wife didn't think of that. "Oh, please let me carry a lot of heavy camera equipment while I try to enjoy the parade." :D

Jerry....Before I had two cameras, my loving wife was very helpful on our vacation through Monument Valley and Grand Canyon as I was constantly switching lenses. I couldn't have done it without her. :-D :-D :-D

Are you:
1)getting on the street or into the construction areas?
2)Or are you in the stands along the parade route?

#1 would suggest the 24-105. Used mostly at the wide end.
#2 requires the reach of your 18-250. And you may feel that it doesn't reach far enough, depending how far up in the stands you are.
