Firstly of all Merry Christmas to you all, I do enjoy seeing this in my mailbox on Monday mornings.
This morning there was a mist on the tree tops, I saw two hawks and got out my camera of course. Then I started to think, I take so many pictures and do nothing with them except store on a hard drive............then I though in 2014 I WILL do something, but what..........? I do not have a website, I don't do weddings. I am in east central Florida and cannot travel much. I would love to add to my SS check. I like portaiture but cannot charge the friends or friends of friends that I usually take. I love animals and wildlife. I have a few not too special cameras but I am happy with them. So I am in a 'slump.' I always have a camera with me as you just never know what you will see.
BUT I want to do something with my pictures. My work is decent and acceptable.
Any ideas most welcome!!
Kind Regards to you all. Thank you for help when I needed it this year.

Why don't you look for deals on frames with mattes and start printing some of your images to hang on your walls.

One challenge is to find a way to limit your investment to time, but not money, but marketing will cost some money I really like the idea of donating some of your efforts to a charity, logging that in the books as marketing costs.

Good luck!!!

My basement walls have serveral hundred photos that I have taken over the years. Many are of my granddaughter, but there are lots and lots of photos that I like. Print them out and mount them. I also share them with friends on facebook and a local camera store that will critique them.

Also, I volunteer for worthy causes. Last week took photos of pre-schoolers with Santa Clause...had a great time and the parents have some great photos. Last year, Homes for Our Troops built a home for a Wounded Warrior who lost both legs and one arm....I did all the photography for them...as well as many others, and then gave him DVDs with over 1,000 photos from the time they broke ground til he recieved the keys. One of my photos made the local newspaper and I enter a lot of photo contests and have won a few. sorry for so much rambling, but there is so much you can do with your photos.

Thank you all for your replies to this message. I have done many of the things suggested. My Dr. office has two waiting rooms full of my pictures. Yes I do family pictures for anyone who asks. To mat and sell pictures, yes there is a lot of wildlife but, at every craft fair and street market there always lots of people that are doing that. I have done many animal pictures for websites, also my dog training club, so I have been fairly active in the community and there is some of my work 'out there' but there could be more. Yes I have to get out and do it!
A blog? sounds interesting, how to start? Also a website, again how to start and as with a blog who would know it was there to look at it?
Again thank you all!

Why not visit some of the Pet Grooming salons in the area and speak to the groomers about letting you offer to take portraits of the pets for the owners. I did that for a couple of years and it paid off nicely. Pet owners love good photos of their pets and the salon owners like being able to have something extra to offer their clients. The groomer I worked with had a little extra room in her office for me to set up a backdrop and shoot the pets there. I had a laptop and a printer there and printed 8x10s out for them while they waited. I never got rich but it paid for my first DSLR and a couple of lenses. And was a lot of fun. Good luck and have fun.

That is very impressive - and something I may be able to do. I have no idea of how to deal with a blog! Would you mind contacting me privately as I have many questions.
Thanks,
Wendy

I saw photos on-line taken for a local pet shelter. Since most animals don't photograph well in their cages, several of the workers take animals to the local park and photograph the animals in action (playing, chasing balls rolling in leaves etc.) The adoption rate goes way up. Rig your printing program to put your name on the photos.
Good luck

Hi Wendy,
You need an independent opinion on that one from someone who is prepared to be totally honest with you.

Wendy, you live in Florida where there is an abundance of wildlife such as those hawks you mention. I also enjoy wildlife photography and about a year and a half ago I was asking similar questions as you are now.
The solution for me for what to do with my photos was blogging.
It's a lot more interesting and creative then a typical web site. You can write about what you photograph as much or as little as you wish.
People can follow your blog posts and comment.
Feel free to check out my blog on Word Press and see what you think.
When I started it I didn't know if anyone would look at it but I now average over 450 hits a day and have had views from 130 different countries.

It's in his "signature" section, at the bottom of each of his posts.
