It's a beautiful winter day. We have about 2 feet of fresh snow, snow on the trees, good, but not ideal, light, and warm temperature (-3 Celsius).

Wow! -3C is warm?! Isn't that like 26F?
Yikes! I would be freezing. :-)

Is that a D600 oil spot I see on the far left of the photo?

Uh-oh. I think that's on the sensor.

OK. I think that I have corrected the WB and cleaned up the sensor spot.

Sorry if I misguided you... I was talking about exposure, not WB. You need to overexpose about 2 stops for the snow to look white.

I went for a walk on a woodland trail and, about a 1/2 mile along, realized that my battery was almost dead!

Guess where my spare battery was. No, I'll make it easier. Guess where my spare battery wasn't.

If there was no one near, could my cursing be heard?

Thought I heard something from up near Canada. Too bad we can't retrieve some of the equipment we've forgotten via voice waves. I think I could have fetched my tire chains that way once or twice.

Snow and Ice here too Dalematt. I was out on Christmas eve shooting in rare sunshine.

I've done the battery thing too Bud, I think I made up a few words.

The "good" news is that you'll have another "2 feet of fresh snow" opportunity before you know it. :-)

Next time, when you take the spare battery, keep it inside your jacket, close to your body, so it stays warm until you need it.

I have a similar story, once when I was doing underwater photography, I noticed a mysterious dark blob would appear in my view finder. When I placed my camera in the housing, a fly was inside the housing and would sometimes land on my lens.

Moral of the story, always check your equipment before each trip.

LOL, ethics is what you do in private. Better to utter a bad word once in a while than to lash out. Your only human!

Hi Dalmat, I have done that once or twice, even my spare was empty. The last time it happened I was able to squeeze 2 or 3 shots from each by putting the battery in a warm pocket for a few minutes. If possible put your camera on full manual this will also save some power.
Cheers

Harking back to an old thread, best not to leave a lithium battery on empty- they can self discharge slowly, and if they get below a certain level they're never the same again.

And if you don't like YOUR climate, think of mine. Yorkshire seems to be just constant grey drizzle from November to March...

I've done the same thing, and to my embarrassment have looked around and, yup, someone was there to witness my outburst. I thought that I was miles from civilization. I have become Gun Shy of shooting off like that. Lucky You, Two Feet? We only had Two inches. It was fun anyway!

I did that one day on a rafting trip in the Grand Canyon. My spare batteries were secured in the raft's watertight storage and not accessible while we ran the rapids. Next day they were zip locked and in my pocket.

Up until your walk, the loudest sound in recorded history was the 1883 volcanic explosion of Krakatoa, off Sumatra. The sound was clearly heard in Australia, some 2,000 miles away.

Your cursing has set a new standard. Congratulations!
