I doubt that you've been using the D300 for 11 years as it's production was only announced in August of 2007.

You are right, it was the Olympus I purchased the day after I retired then came the d300.
Thank you so much for correcting me!

I also own a D300 and bought a D7100 in addition. The idea was to use the 7100 as the primary camera for my nature photography. I put the D300 away to force myself to get used to the new camera. Not incredibly pleased with the choice. The biggest problem seems to be with what appears to be focusing difficulty, in the D7100 AF mode. Back to using the D300 as the primary equipment.

When I grow up I want to take photos just like these, excellent. What is you primary lense combinations. Thanks.

The lens I currently use is the Nikkor AF-S 300mm F2.8 ED VR2, I normally have a 1.4 TC attached and occasionally a 2 x TC.

Before this I used a Nikon 300mm F4 and Sigma 150-500mm both of which are excellent lenses.

This is KVM jumping in, I am using the Sigma 150-500 now but not getting photos like this. Can you give me some do and don'ts on using that lens, on birds mainly. I made a mistake and tried the 1.4 tele converter with it but that was a disaster.

After the second comment, I realized KVM was talking to you. Looking at your flickr site, it's clear I shouldn't try to speak for you. It's an amazing collection!

I shoot a lot of birds and BIF.

I had the D300s which was a fine camera, but was beginning to show it's age.

Two month ago I bit the bullet and traded the D300s in for a D7100 (I also own a D7000) .

In conclusion the D7100 blows the D300s out of the water, in every way, just get used to the button layout.

I use the new San Disk Pro cards (95mbs) and have no problems with the buffer, although I do not spray and pray.I do shoot in RAW.

Take a look at my Flickr page, the link is in my signature.
The 40th picture is the last one taken with the D300s.

I did look at your Flickr page. All I can say is WOW! I now have something to aspire to. Not sure I'll live long enough, though. Kudos!!!

The D7100 is a vastly superior camera body to the aging D300. Sharper images, faster processor, much larger files for larger prints. Different control layout but that is all you would have to learn. The resulting images blow away the 12MP results from the D300 in anything larger than 11x14 prints.

Is that straight Epson or Canon prints or sending to a pro lab to upsize your files for an optimum image? When the D300 first came out the labs were displaying 30x40 prints at the trade shows from its RAW files and they looked fantastic. The ability to create these hasn't been lost, has it?
