After looking through a National Geographic magazine and seeing the unbelievable pictures there I got the bug again. I found UHH and have only been lurking a few days.
Today I saw a picture I have to comment on so I jumped in to UHH.
I loved photography years ago and lost my way somehow with family, kids, and life. I just found my old Konica FT-1 and it's not a pretty site when you leave the batteries in for 15 to 20 years.
After dealing with the families PS and my iPhone the last few years I've been researching (way too much) DSLR's and narrowed it down to the Nikon d7100 and Canon 70d. Too many features on the Canon to pass up so just have to find a fair deal. Let me know what you think. I'm not big on video but the focusing is tremendous on the 70d.

You'll get many replies for all of the DSLR cameras on the market today. Do your own research, compare their features, search sites that will give you comparisons (Off hand I can only give you one, below) Go to a camera store and hold and see how it feels in your hands. Even better, rent the camera you feel is right, then make your decision.

Welome. A common story, you will love what you can do with new technology. I would go for the Canon too, but either or any is good. HAving just read the story about carpenters, what can I say. Enjoy it knowing any shortcomings will be the operator, not the equipment. Best wishes, Andrew.

Welcome to the forum. You can't go wrong with either camera. I have a Nikon D7000 and I love it. In a way comparing Canon to Nikon is like comparing Audi to BMW. Sure people will have their preferences; but either one are phenomenal. Sorry Mercedes owners and fans. It was just an analogy did not mean to slight your fantastic cars. lol.

I have the D7000 also and I really love it! The D7100 sounds like a great camera and it's probably what I would buy if I were in the market. Best wishes for whichever you choose.

Welcome! Having recaptured the bug this year, I can empathize. I had a Nikon SLR, loved it, did the research, yet went Canon because it literally felt right in my hand.

Welcome to the hog, Pistolero. Nice that you found your way back to taking pictures. May i suggest, if your not that much into video, check out the Canon 60D, its a great camera with most all the bells and whistles and best of all, its much cheaper than the 70D. I also use a 60D.

Welcome, you'll find a very encouraging group of folks here. It's great to find a forum that's not full of professional haters. I moved up from point and shoot about 6 months ago to a Nikon D5200 and couldn't be happier. A kit with 18-55 and a 55-200 VR lenses is around $1000, a good value for the money for getting back into the game as you are. I think it'll take me quite a while to explore all of the capabilities of my gear. I've got a Nikkor 55-300 VR lens now that is pretty much my "go to" lens most of the time. Just checked my shutter count and I'm at a little over 5000 now and it's worked flawlessly. You can't go wrong with any major brand anymore, seems like Canon and Nikon are kings of the hill, though. And you can keep using your lenses as you move up the food chain over time. Once you pick which camp to be in, I concur that you need to go to a store and feel around for what's right for you and your particular purpose. Merry Christmas and good luck in your search!

Don't overlook a Sony Alpha series. Same bells and whistles as the other two (Sony makes their sensor).
