What kind of camera? What exactly do you mean by syn? Do you want to do it wirelessly, with a card reader or with the camera attached via the manufacturer's cable? Need more info...

I think you are talking about tethering. If you google your camera and "tethering", you might find some useful information. This feature depends on both your camera and the software you are running on your computer.

Related question: Does tethering to TV or laptop via USB or HDMI have any effect + or - on the camera battery drain?

I would think so, unless one has the AC/DC adapter kit to plug into your camera.

Nikon has similar adapters, but that's still another wire to step over. That's why I'd rather not use the adapter unless the USB connection is draining power.

There are three main tether choices for the Mac. The pricey Aperture, the pricier Lightroom, or the free Sofortbild which gets high marks.

My Nikon D5200 has a wifi attachment. Download the free iOS app and connect to the Nikon's own wifi network and use your iPhone or iPad as a trigger. I wouldn't recommend using the wifi to transfer 24-gig NES (raw) files . . . Too freakin SLOW! Wait until you're wired or can plug in your memory card.

As a cautionary note, stay close to the camera. If the iPhone gets too far away, or one of the devices goes to sleep, you'll have to reestablish the network connection as the phone reconnects to (for instance) your home network.

If you are in close proximity to your PC or Laptop just invest in an Eye-Fi SD card and you're all set. Very simple and they work well.

Thanks, @Pepper,

That would work better since Nikon's wifi adaptor is about one cubic centimeter in size and must be plugged into the side of the camera (USB port)

But how do you use it to tether?

I'll have to buy an eye-fi card and experiment.

I'm happy with the Nikon iOS app. It uses the iPhone screen to focus and shoot. I'm sure it does more, but I have yet to explore all its capabilities.

EOS Utility that came with your camera. Download the latest version from Canon
