I shoot with a Canon 60D and use photoshop 11 to view and edit my photos. How can I personalize my photos? I would like to put a signature, or scripted name and location in a corner of my picture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Virgil

You can create a "signature" or "watermark" image in numerous ways.

1- Create the text including the © symbol and save as a graphic file to resize and overlay on your photos in PS or PSE. If doing it this way you can create the text with a transparent background so it isn't too intrusive.
2- Take the file created above and turn it into a "brush" in PS. I don't know how since I don't use PS but it can be done to make it easy to add to the photo.

3. Use a program like the FREE "Watermark Image" software that will add a "watermark" or "signature" file to either one or many photos easily and it lets you select the postion that you want to put it in.

I use FastStone Photo Re-sizer for water marking. It's free for non-commercial use. You have to register for commercial use so I assume there is some charge for that. It's easy to use and also does a lot more than just watermark. It re-sizes, does basic editing and can add text, borders, etc.

The simplest way is to select the Text tool, the font you want, and type your name and the title or location, and drag to position them where you want them. Once positioned, click on any other layer and the text you have just typed will now be on its own layer. You can do each on its own layer so they can be positioned independently.

I agree with FastStone, both Photo Resizer and Imager Viewer are excellent tools, and both are free, you can make a donation if you find it is worth something to you.

Here's another way to add a watermark, this shows a few ways, my favorite is to create a brush, that way you can always change it's color, size and opacity as needed.

=================

I do this in CS-5

Go to the "TYPE TOOL" on the tools menu....
You can "draw" a box anywhere you want - I go for the center. After I type what I want - I use the opacity "slider" to Din the Type so that it is Not overly noticeable. I give it a Turn to go diagonally - Then "Flatten" the image into one... Then Save as a jpg for on-line use...
I do NOT Ever put this on a Print that is for sale....

See Image example::

A also vote for the create a brush idea. Works extremely well and easily resized in photoshop, also can use the eyedropper to select color from within photo for the brush which makes your logo or signature look professional.

Virgil, go to the top of the page and click on Search, when open use Watermark as search key. You will find MANY entries here for it. A lot of great ideas and tips.

Windows Paint won't save the transparent background in a png, as I discovered about 5 hours ago. At least the version I have (6.1, with Windows 7). A newer version might.

You can make a logo with a transparent background using Paint.Net (http://www.getpaint.net/). Remember to save as a PNG file.

This thread prompted me to finally do this right, so now I can watermark my pictures on SmugMug. Thanks! :-)
