I'm still learning but reasonably happy with this shot. It just wasn't possible to get up-sun in this situation. I wasn't using raw and had to crop this quite a bit.
Whistling kite
Very nice shot. It is hard to get the critters to pose. I always talk to them and make reasonable requests such as 'Please face the sun' but they never seem to listen.

I was visiting Edinburgh zoo, oh, about 30 years ago. They had an outdoor enclosure for the gorillas. This big old silverback was sitting on some kind of raised 'branch', quite a ways off and up high. Unfortunately, he was facing the wrong way... I said something like "just turn around for a minute...", and lo and behold, he did just that! I took the shot, and as I brought my camera down, I mumbled something like "thank you!". Then I looked around... I was surrounded by a bunch of kids, all looking at me with wide eyes and gaping mouths! Hey, it's just a power I have...

Nice shot. What is the bird?
Thanks for the info. Never saw one when I was in New Guinea. Probably hang out only in the coastal areas and I was up in the highlands.
