Does anyone have this lens and how do you like it? I believe it is an AI lens. Has 5 screws on mount and has the silver ring with the metal clip near mount.
A friend ask if I would like to try it out. Just want to be sure that it will mount okay on my Nikon 5100 or D80 camera's.
If it will help, the S/N is:3109136
Thanks in advance for you help!
It's a good lens - all Nikon 50mms are. However, on a DX body, it is going to be a 75mm lens equivalent, so a short telephoto. I'd want a 1.8 or 1.4 to help with background defocus at that focal length, which is close to portrait.
but, yes, it is a good lens.

It is a stunning lens. It dates from early 1975. If it has the Ai kit, which it seems to it will mount and work perfectly.
Oliver.
Thank you both for your quick replies! Will take some shots in the next few days and check it out. Would most likely go for the 35mm for my camera's, but since I am just going to try this out, I'll give it my best shot!

i'm late to your post, but would like to assure you that of all the 50mm lenses Nikon have made, the little old plain jane 50mm f2.0 beats the pants off all the others. i don't believe you will be unhappy. good luck!
I've had one circa 1979. I used it on an old FE 35mm. It was great lens.
Again, thank you all for your replies. Going out this weekend and do some picture taking with that lens!
If it is an AI lens (metal prong has a small hole on either side of the slot) it wil mount OK but you will have to focus manually.
But if it Pre-AI (just a slot without the holes next to it in the metal prong), use caution and read your camera's manual to see what lenses can mount without damaging your camera. I have heard some sad reports but no first-hand knowledge.

Thanks TJ; It is an AI lens. Will be trying it out tomorrow! Will post some results.
