Has anyone in the UK purchased from Simply Electronics or
EGlobal Digital store?

http://www.simplyelectronics.net

http://www.eglobaldigitalstore.co.uk

Both have excellent prices on lcamera equipment.

EGlobal I am not sure about as they are imports and admit they are not covered by the manufacturers guarantee. They cover for 12 month with 24 month as an extra - but start at about £240 compared with £350 normal best price.

FWIW I tried to buy a Samsung dual SIM phone from Simply Electronics about a year ago, stated to have been "in stock". After 3 weeks of me phoning and emailing and various promises, I eventually got my credit card refunded after threatening them with Barclays and their trade sponsor. Personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole! Spend the extra and buy from a proper UK dealer. Good luck whatever you do!

Hello Crwiwy, do not buy from either of these sites, another one to avoid is Value Basket. They appear to be UK based but if you have any problems you will soon find out otherwise.
Cheers
John

Hi, I just bought a Sigma 85mm 1.4 from e-Global. On opening it up, the lens was faulty. Trying to get hold of them was difficult, until you sign up for their own communication system. Then they were not too bad. They arranged collection of the lens to go back to China, but then took 5 days to confirm that there was a problem. That was too long for me, so I asked for my money back, which they have said will take 3 - 5 days. We are at day 2 at the moment, so we shall see. At least this way I have been able to go to Wex to buy a lens. Phoned an order in yesterday afternoon - lens delivered lunchtime today. The lens from e-Global was about £100 cheaper, took 7 days to get here, and was a bit of hastle when things go wrong. They did try, but halfway round the world, time differences etc do not help. Also, the warranty would not be valid on the e-global lens if anything went wrong at a later time. Would love to stay and chat, but I have a new lens to play with.

I agree on Value Basket - I ordered a lens and they kept telling m it was out of stock but due in - they finally said no stock would be available and tried to substitute a lens I had not ordered and did not want. I sent in total, some 21 email messages before I finally got my refund. Paypal were useless as Value Basket had kept me waiting beyond the 30 days Paypal policy.
Simply Electronics are not worth dealing with either - their website advertises an online chat facility but it never works - they do not answer emails until they are pestered and you can not get hold of Customer Services for love nor money. When I did get through, on 2 occasions, I think they put the warehouse cleaner on the line - talk about limited script she was useless.
Some sites that offer low prices are alright but I would avoid these based on my experience

With suspect site like these I always dig into the contact details and check there is a genuine phone number but, more importantly check they have a UK address. If they have, email them and ask if you can collect, if you can't treat them with utmost caution.

Thanks everyone.
Taking your advice I could only see a non-locational telephone number and no address at all.
Prices are very good but I think I will avoid them.
