If you have a tendency to think that "all homeless people" are drunk or abusing other substances, lazy, dirty, jobless, whatever, please take a look at this series of portraits:

I think it's important to read the very short story that goes with these penetrating portraits of people just like anybody, you, me… Just people, fellow mortals.

Years ago I attended a talk given by a nun who was the chaplain to the homeless population of a medium-sized western city. What has stuck with me for more than 40 years is that there is no single "cause" of homelessness; that each case must be considered case-by-case, and for far too many of us, homelessness may be but a single paycheck away. It was true 40 years ago, it's true now, and it will be true tomorrow.

In these difficult times, we should all try to be understanding and reach out to our fellow man or woman if we can.

We never know when we will need help from others.

Very compelling images. What did it feel like talking with them about their plight, while standing on the other side of the fence?

As I said earlier, we never know when we may be in a similar situation. We should all be sympathetic and understanding of others and not judge.

Yes, very true.

I wonder what happened to those homeless subjects after the shoot was over. "Okay, now give me back the clothes and jewelry and get back out on the street." :?:

Wow. Outstanding portraits. I had casually thought of doing something like that but upon deeper reflection I understand that a project like that takes skill at many levels, time and understanding.
