Maybe this has been mentioned in the past but, in case it hasn't, I wanted to share a down side/warning to using Shutterfly for inexpensive print jobs. After several prints came back looking quite different than what was on the screen and even after being re-printed in some cases, I am only JUST NOW being told by a customer service person that there is a box that has to be checked telling them "DO NOT APPLY AUTOMATIC CORRECTIONS TO PICTURE". Guess where the box is hidden--under "Apply Effects" in the drop-down under "Edit" in the albums! What earnest photographer would use Shutterfly to edit or apply effects in the first place? I like Shutterfly for the ease of making books and calendars, but I was dumbfounded that they would hide an important feature such as I've pointed out where no one would think to look. If anything, that message needs to be under each image when you are actually placing an order for prints, books, calendars, etc. Shutterfly, are you listening?

Darn, just ordered 50 free prints for signing up. Hope they look alright. I agree with you, No self respecting REAL(sorry for yelling) photographer would use anything like that to edit.

I won't use them again. Price was not good for the quality I received.

Most of the time my images come back okay--it's the ones with sensitive high dynamic range details that are ruined.

I have about a dozen books and most look fine. As I told PhotoJoe, it's the high dynamic range images that suffer. The program for books has undergone some changes with background colors that I'm not crazy about--too many patterns and not enough nuanced shades compatible with landscape photography.

Glad if it helps prevent any disappointments for others.

I know that it's time to start looking around but it's so gall darn time consuming to move all the albums to another site. Though, now that I think of it, the other sites out there may have much faster uploads. :?:

I have used them a few time to make books (5 actually) with no problems. I must have been lucky, I will be looking for that box in the future! Thank you for the heads up!

Costco (and I assume Sam's) does the same thing. You have to affirmatively TURN OFF the auto-correct.

Pro labs have a different model. They CHARGE you for using the auto-correct.

It's fun anticipating the bright orange box with our treasure trove of images enclosed--and, so long as we know about the little box that needs checked, we'll be pleased with our efforts.
