UPS vrs. FEDEX
I believe the area of the UK, including NI, is about 95,000 square miles, versus our 3.8 million. England itself is only about 50,000 square miles. The size of Alabama.
If FedX and UPS merged togrther, they may become FED UPS
Fed Ex hires a lot of contract employee's for the Holidays. Paid for Fed Ex 3-5 business days. New Canon lens tracked it, on the street for Friday delivery, waited all day, saw on tracking website driver said he tried to deliver, no one home, same thing on Saturday, stayed home all day no delivery. Same story on website, "no one home". It arrived Monday Fed Ex employee stated, contract employees do that all the time. Notified Fed Ex, std e mail sorry for your problems. No refund for being four days late. Will not use them again.

I have found that when I order from Amazon, Adorama or B&H, and request and pay for the 2-3 day delivery option, FedEx will deliver to the USPS on the third day and I will not receive until day four. Also the UPS delivery is always put on the front porch, but the USPS individual just hangs it on the mail box in a plastic bag for al to see as they drive by. Dose anyone else have these issues?
Our mailman brings packages to the door and knocks for a signature. Could this be a rural/ urban difference in service?
Feel free to have any and all packages sent to me. I will guard them with my life. In fact, I will guard them so good you will never see them. I know, I know, I'm sacrificing so much for you, but I'm just that kind of a guy.

You're in a country with a population of 63 million, one-fifth the current US population in an area of about 960000 square miles. I would expect the service to be both quicker and more accurate.
Size of country vs.density of population. USA-298,444,215pop, in 3,539,225 sq.mls. = 84 per sq.ml. vs the UK- 60,609,153 in 93,278 sq.ml.= 650 people per sq.ml. so things could be a little busier over there.
Canada has 9 people people per sq.ml.
