I've been reading some of the posts on UHH for a while and everyone seems so friendly and helpful that I decided to jump in and become part of the family. I've been interested in photography for a long time and actually started with an old Pentax K1000 back in the 70s and have actually gotten some pretty decent photos with that camera over the years. A couple of years ago I purchased a Canon T1i with the 18-55 and 55-250 kit lenses.
My 20yo daughter and I are taking a 2 week coach tour of the UK next May starting in London and heading up to Scotland then over to Ireland and finally back to London. I was thinking of perhaps renting an upgraded lens for the trip and was hoping I could get some suggestions. I imagine there will be a lot of landscape shots and city scenes taken. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Hog, Helios. Sorry I can't offer any help with your lens question, I shoot Nikon, but some Canon guys will come along soon enough. ;)

I would recommend a Canon 15-85mm lens. It will cover most anything you would like to take and the copy of the lens I use is very sharp. It is a little on the heavy side, but well built. It makes your camera like 24-136mm if it was an EF lens. Have fun and good luck.

Welcome! Not quite "everyone" on UHH is friendly and helpful, but if you just ignore the bullies when you do run across them, you'll have a lot of fun and learn something every day.

Your upcoming trip sounds like a photographer's dream. I haven't rented any lenses, nor do I use the biggies, so no help there. But I'm looking forward to seeing your results :)

Hi Helios, welcome to the hog. Glad you joined us. As for renting another lens, i would say you have the right lenses now. When we toured Italy and Israel, i used my 18-55 more than any other lens, but i did use my 28-135 also and found both to be very adequate.

Welcome to UHH Helios. Shoot Nikon not Canon but lens choice should be the same. I have a 18-200mmVRII lens that stays on my D7100 about 85% of the time. Would think this would be a good choice in the Canon lens area. Hope you and your daughter enjoy your trip. Looking forward to seeing your shots on your return.
