My son has a Nikon 3100 with a zoom lens (~18-140) and he wants a SMALL camera bag--no room for other lenses or other stuff, maybe just an extra battery. I think he wants a holster designed for his camera? What would you recommend? Thank you. Rich

I have always been a fan of Domke. American made and durable.

Best recommendation? A small sling bag. more comfortable and secure from falling than a shoulder bag, pick as small or large volume as you want, and your gear is more immediately and readily available than with a traditional 2-strap back-pack.

I agree with you lowepro and think tank holsters fit to your belt and a shoulder strap so no slipping or flying about if you get energetic, light small and comfortable, plus quicker to use

Have had great success with Crumpler bags probably like a 3million dollar home would be great for your application

I would recommend the LowePro Sling bag. I have both the 100 and the 200 and I switch them out depending on my shooting need. I also have a LowePro 450 prorunner which is quite large to carry all my equipment on longer travel. Hope this helps.

The sling bags are very convenient to carry and reach.

I do not think people are reading your requirements try this I do not think you will get smaller or better the 10 or 20 will do fine and attached to a belt are extremely easy to carry and fast to use, plenty of room for batteries and memory cards and rain proof cover included
Good luck

I think Lowepro has the best price value -- here is a page of options:
http://store.lowepro.com/shoulder-bags?features_lowepro=195&fits_lowepro=174&price=-75

These have all weather covers.

Thanks to each of you for the time and effort you gave me with your replies. I looked at your suggestions, but ended up ordering him a Camera Coat Alpine Ultra Padded & Water Resistant Black Vest Standard.
Thanks again,
Rich
