This is a really interesting image to me. The shiny red with the bit of white highlight, the textures of the flowers and the way they're lit, the whole composition - it's quite compelling! The only thing I'd change personally is to remove the hard edges of the area that goes from black to gray on the right-hand side, just make it smoother so my eye doesn't stop there and wonder what it is.

Even when texture wasn't part of the original subject, I find that it helps the eye (or brain) to interpret what is being looked at.

I suppose the ideal is to have real detail and do whatever it takes to bring out that detail, but more and more I'm seeing texture as an interesting enhancement (as long as it's not overdone, of course).

I am sorry but I do not know what this picture is about. Having grown up when we had to put up with grainy, constrasty images, I still do not find them pleasing. I do not know what the intent was here but the retro fad, uninformed technique or simply wanting to be different do not justify the quality of this print.

Much Thx Linda of Maine for your observation and CC. I too considered that, but I then noticed that after several looks at that area, mentally conming from black to light grey to black, again I noticed my attention immediately bounced back across the photo. So I chose to keep it...lol

I dont have all the answers either, but I do know that the longer I study and hang around this forum, the more I want to experience thinking outside the box....Much Thx R.G.
