Jerry,
If your computer is off, the eye-fi card defaults to sending them to your Eye-Fi account that you set up when you registered your cards. As soon as you turn on your computer, the eye-fi program activates and the pictures will download to your primary computer. Check your Eye-Fi program settings.

I've been using Eye-Fi SD cards in my cameras for over a year, and I'd hate to go back to the "old fashioned" kind. These tiny cards can not only store 1,000 images, they send them via Wi-Fi straight to my computer.

I've noticed something surprising over the past few days. My computer had been "asleep" when I took pictures, so, of course, there was no transfer. Perhaps the next day, when I woke the computer, the images started appearing, even though the camera was turned off. I always thought that the camera had to be powered on for the card to transmit. Apparently not.

I believe that there is a set up option to allow the images to be stored "in the cloud" so that you can do just what you described.

Jerry,
At last a touch of sanity! Thank you for chiming in.

The new 16gb Eye-Fi can transmit raw files.

I have two Eye-Fi's but I've never used them. Primarily because of the incompatibility with RAW files. Maybe I should give them another look.

Thanks, Jerry!

But there is a problem with their web hosting capabilities. If you take too many photos, you will not be able to access your pictures through their internet web site. The only way to get your photos is through their software which caused me a big problem. this is a "known problem" as they put it and has been going on for over 6 months - since I first experienced it.

The "Pro" cards work with raw, but the transfer rate is lower. If I'm in a hurry, I put the card into the computer.

Ah, I see. By default, everyone gets temporary storage - a week, I think. When the images upload to my computer, they also upload to my Eye-Fi page. So the pictures that are arriving at my computer later are coming from the Eye-Fi site? Interesting. I'll have to experiment with that.

If I'm away from home, the pictures would not upload without my Wi-Fi connection, correct?

When you set your card up through the Eyefi web site you now have an account with them, the pictures are also saved at their site for a short time for transfer. If you log into your account you will see your pictures are there also.

Right. I like the fact that they disappear after a while. Otherwise, I'd have thousands sitting there - the good and the bad.

I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. You can probably google it for the whole story. I heard it on a news show.

It must be true if you heard it on the news, or internet. They're not allowed to give bad information are they?

You need the Pro version of the card to do RAW files!

With the regular card your pictures disappear after 7 days, with the Pro card they will stay for a year and then you can renew your subscription.
