I just purchased 2 books on digital photography for dummies, and am trying to learn about this "jargin". I dont know anything about the hystogram yet other than it is on the program and I dont know what to do with it. Thanks for the critique on the berries in the snow. It does look better. At least I noticed there was something not quite right, right? LOL
What do you think about the pics of the boys climbing the tree and in the playhouse window. Too dark also? I know the one is blurry, taking pics of "boys" that age is quite a challenge, their on the move and you have to take what you can get.

The histogram is quite simple to learn really .... I don't know what editing program you have ... but in photoshop it's in the image menu / adjustments/ levels
That will open an adjustment box ..... the black part of the histogram is the colors. Directly underneath it are 3 arrow sliders ... the left one is for the darks .... you slide that one over to the right until it just meets the black .... the middle one is for the midtones ... normally you won't need to adjust that one ... the right one is for the lights ....you slide that one to the left until it just meets the black ...
while learning if you prefer you can just hit the auto button.
While this type of correction is not really necessary on all photos it does make a big difference on some and no other post processing is necessary.

Thank you, I just installed Windows Live Photo Gallery. I tried to install Gimp and my computers security wouldn't allow it. This is the one suggested in the Dummies Book so I downloaded it. I'm not that impressed, it does pretty much the same thing that the program that came with my P&S camera has. The histogram, funny thing I have messsed with it a little I guess, I just didnt realize what it was doing. The book only had a couple of pages about it. Now I know. My birthday is coming up at the end of next mo. so maybe something like Photo Shop Elements will come my way. But I'm a little apprehensive....I think its WAY more than I need. I'd just like to use that eraser (mostly). LOL
