Filtering the Courthouse

Benton County Courthouse, Corvallis, Oregon.
This courthouse is the oldest courthouse in Oregon that has been in continuous operation since it was built in 1889.
It's an old building so I used an old-fashioned filter, colored pencils.

HT,

I like this image because the filter did NOT alter the flag on top of the courthouse. Good job!

Thanks, Mark. I zoomed in to make sure it didn't. I have better photos of this courthouse. This shot wasn't framed too well but I thought I could make a more interesting image out of it with the filter.

I love the image and I love the treatment you did! Do you have dreams of art and pp? Seems like it'd be hard to turn off the brain after so much fun!

That worked out really well. I've tried the filters in PS, but they always seem heavy handed to me. I guess I'm going to have to revisit them and try to come up with something closer to what you can do. Thanks for the inspiration.

Lovely filter treatment. It looks almost like a cross stitch embroidery. I like it.

Thank you, Linda. The colored pencil treatment really worked on this one. I was inspired by the treatment you did of the spider web a while ago to explore that filter. It's a much more useful filter than I used to think.

Thank you very much, ebrunner. I have had these filters for years and thought the same as you, but recently a UHH member suggested I try other treatments on my train station photo and I got some cool results, so I've decided to revisit these filters. Don't know why I didn't connect with them before, but if you use all the controls and sliders, there are some gems in there if you find one that suits a particular image.

Thanks, Yooper. That was my first successful use of that filter. I like it so much I'll put it in my basket of "cool tools."

Really love the treatment done, it keeps the eye interested allowing it to distinguish itself from 'just another building' photo. I really think this would make a lovely city website or Chamber of Commerce photo!
Congrats!

Thanks so much, eye art! Maybe I'll pop by there and give them a print one day. They decorate this building for Christmas and I hope to get a few night time shots this year.
