Small Digital for China Trip?

My daughter is traveling to China next month, would like to purchase a small camera for her trip. Not dependent on Iphone!! I already have 60D, so not interested in major DSLR. Would appreciate suggestions, like to keep it under $300 if possible. Thanks! 8-)

Panasonic and Canon have some GREAT P&S models between $150 and $300 that would work very nicely and have 20x optical zoom.

I would suggest something ruggedized and waterproof, like the Nikon AW100 or AW110 models. Exceptional cameras for the price and easily pocketable.

Five years ago we took a two week trip to China and I used my Panasonic Lumix LX3 exclusively and was very satisfied. Of course it has now been replaced with the LX5 and then the LX7 models but are just great. I shot most everything on automatic, but those models also have all the controls you would want. The current model is above your price range but you could get the LX5 easily for under $300.

I travel a lot in 3rd world countries and I take my Power shot Canon SX260, 12mp, 20X, IS. They now came up with the SX280. With the SX260 you can use it in P, tv, av, or live view. You can control a lot. Lot's of choices. Both around $200.00.

I have a Panasonic DMC-ZS30 and the company says that it may be restricted from use in China and some bordering areas because it has GPS capabilities. They advise that you check with the embassy and travel agent to see if there are any restrictions.

Take a look at the Sony Cyber-Shot H200. It's on sale NOW for less than $200. Small, but it has VERY good image quality and lots of features. :thumbup:

Tigers, there are Sooo many good cameras. If she wants pretty small, look at a Canon s100 or s105 or similar. the refubs should be around $300 and they shoot both RAW and HDR
