Thanks for all the info. Extra SD cards might be the answer.
Thanks

Extra SD cards, or consider a "netbook" with a 350gb hard drive. Not much bigger than a good tablet and about the same price, maybe a lot less. Have seen them at Walmart for under $300

I carry extra cards AND an iPad. Yes, transferring to the iPad with the optional camera kit is dead easy. I transfer only the ones I suspect are keepers but keep everything on the cards until I get back to home base. I carry the cards in a neat little Ruggard case that protects them from just about anything. Going that extra step and transferring to Dropbox is also quite simple and provides an extra level of backup.

I looked into this problem before a month long safari in Africa and decided on a netbook. Same size and price as a tablet with oodles more storage room. Now I don't PP anything just upload the photos and on rainy days (there were none) I might watch a slide show. I had 4 cards and I only used 2 of them. JIC I also had an external HD for backup purposes, a small WD passport. I came back with over 6,000 photos and am very happy with my decision. YMMV

I have read in the news horror stories about about people coming home from abroad and having their electronics, especially laptops, confiscated by Customs/TSA and either getting them back months later (with contents having been tampered), or in some cases not at all. I'd upload the photos to a cloud service as a backup then mail the cards home to yourself.

Sorry I can't talk about any other tablet, but for Ipad you spend $20.00 for the adapter, you can go directly from camera or from card. Could not be easier. I have about 1000 shots on my Ipad from a trip to Jamacia. Great way to review pic each day when away from home.

I would think it would work for any tablet. Do you have a USB outlet or mini SD card outlet?

Funny, I came home from a broad and all I brought back was the clap.

But seriously, give your head a shake. You read one story in countless thousands and your ready to accept it as gospel? I also read horror stories regarding travel in Peru and none of it happened. Very nice place to visit and I wouldn't hesitate to go there again. But there are so many other places my cameras, lenses, netbook, cell phone, external hard drives, Giga Pan Epic Pro and let's not forget my wife and I would like to visit before senility sets in.

I travel extensively worldwide. I upon occasion do store my shots on my iPad. In fact I have even done that in the studio. (Shot tethered from my Nikon to my iPad.) It is very easy to do. Go to www.eye.fi. The cost is very reasonable. Having said that when I travel I use a separate card each day. I don't like to have all my shots residing in one place or on one media. If I lose one card I lose one day of shooting. If I lose, or my iPad gets stolen,or it crashes, I lost it all.

That's easy. I have an iPad and purchased a Lightning To Camera USB Camera Adapter. Away from home I plug that adapter into the camera's USB cable and one end goes into the camera and one end into the IPad. In a few minutes my photos are on my iPad. I would imagine any tablet would have that capability, but I purchased e iPad specifically because it does have the ability and the resolution is ideal for showing photos to people while out and about.

I have an Eye-Fi sd card and it can send pictures to my tablet or cell phone by wi-fi. Hope this link will work.

Sorry for repeating your message, Russ, but by dropping the "s" the URL now is a proper link.

I have and used an Asus transformer tablet which has SD slot in the tablet and you can get a keyboard that has another SD slot plus extra memory. Also they both have batteries so key board will charge the tablet when connected. It also has USB ports on both tablet and keyboard. It's like a laptop but more compact and easier to use.

I went to Alaska this year for 2 weeks and wanted something lite and lots of storage so I purchased a small laptop with 500 Gig storage. It's just slightly larger than a tablet and it fit in my rolling camera bag. worked great for me. PRICE WAS LESS THAN A TABLET.

I am traveling to Italy next summer and I want to lighten up my load so I don't want to take a lap top. Can someone please give me some ideas on how to move my pictures from my PS camera to a tablet? Also which tablet to use. I might as well get one on sale this holiday.

As always thanks for your help.

Tablets while lighter than laptops, don't usually have the ports for data transfer. Very few have SD ports and those that do have ports for mini SD cards, not full size camera type cards. Apple iPads have no ports at all with the exception of the charging ports which can be used to receive data from a computer. Some of the Android tablets have both usb and mini SD ports. But you still need to convert your full size SD cards to mini SD to load them to your tablet.
I would look at a lightweight laptops, like a Mac Air or maybe a Chromebook. They usually have greater memory on board plus multiple data ports.
