Has anybody used this diffuser? Also, which is preferable, 1/2 cloud or full cloud?

Are you referring to the lightsphere?

I've never used that one, but I do have a cheap knockoff--the lambency. It works like a charm for producing even, boring lighting as long as you are using it in a smallish room with white walls.

If the room does not meet these requirements you can put the dome on top and tilt your flash as if the lightsphere were a massive stoffen.

The cloud produces very soft light.

hl...You're right, it's called the lightshere. I saw a guy using one today. He had his flash pointed straight up and it both bounced and diffused the flash. It was in a pretty big room (car dealership).

Well, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Gary Fong has several video regarding the use of the Light Sphere and he even covers using it outside. I have done that--dome on and pointing directly at the model.
But, no matter what, unless you are surrounded by bounce-able walls, a lot of the light is being wasted.
I recently saw a video where a guy wrapped his lightsphere with foil to keep from wasting light.

I'll tell you one thing. I knew a guy who had one--when I saw some of his images I went out and ordered the fake one. But I've been in church events where I was not shooting and he was somewhere behind me with his massive canon flash/lightsphere combo.
Even directly behind me, the light that thing was throwing was hurting my eyes.
I stopped using mine soon after.

I have one and would say that it is not worth the money. The diffuser that came with my Nikon flash does an excellent job.

Hi,
I have been using one for a couple of years now. I typically use it on my flash all of the time varying direction for almost anything and like the results. The downside is that it is bulky.

I have been using one for about 6 months and I really like it .Get the collapsible one takes up less room when you put it away.

Here's my choice. Unlike most of the others, these work under ALL circumstances . . . not just inside in small rooms. Check them out . .

Yes it's big when on your strobe, but it collapses into your case. I get excellent results for interior shots with the lightsphere.
