For DX......7100 all the way. No debate.

For FX....hard to beat the 610...if you can afford it..the 800 for sure.

your DX lens will work....just not as great..

I bought a D7000 a couple of months ago. The button layout takes some getting used to, but I'm ok with it now. I understand the D7100 is a great body, I just didn't have the cash at the time.

Can't argue with that logic. Christmas just around the corner so maybe Santa will be kind.

I know about that. But I'm not one to buy use so I'll just keep saving.

Trout Man,
I upgraded from the Nikon D80 to the D7100. I fully agree with a lot of the previous posts, you can not go wrong with the D7100. Fantastic camera. Just could not justify the $2,800 for the D800 and then new glass. Not making my living from my photography, thank God. You just have to decide what you want to shoot and spend.

People that say this clearly never had one and/or never use it effectively.

I recently purchased the D7100 and totally love it. I also own 2 FX lenses which I constantly use with it. There is no problems using the lenses with the camera. You'll love the way the D7100 feels in the hand and the ease of operation. I'm totally blown away with the pictures I get from the 7100. Before purchasing the 7100 I was able to rent a 800. It was a lot of fun and gave me some very great pictures but found that I liked the 7100 a little better -- primarily due to the way it felt in my hands and ease of operation. Also the price difference was also a decision maker. Gotta keep my spouse happy. :)

Maybe I can rent one and try it. Never tried to rent one before so I'll see how it goes.

Did you purchase FX lens for the 7100 or did you have them already. A few replies said to go ahead and get FX lens first.

Good advice. The D800 is our of my price range for what I do and I'm betting the D600 will drop at a later date. Thanks,
Tom

Tom, thought you'd appreciate my FX lens collection (this was a few years back, I have added to this, but a few have left as well)

Holey crap Scott, did you hit every yard sale in your state. Kidding of course. Now that's an impressive collection. I'm betting that collection took a few years and each has a story. Wow.
