Semper Fi to all who have served or are presently in the USMC. However, after listening to some of the recent testimony about sexual abuses being perpetrated in the services of late, I feel this type of abuse has become far more accepted and common place. What ever happened to officers being "Gentleman"? Has the manpower base gone so low as to accept those who are unsuited for group military service and the honor that entails?

Our high ranking officers seems to have lost sight of the image of "Honor, Pride and Service to Country" and allowed sexual misconduct to become something that is excused behavior that might ruin an officer's or enlisted man's career. Do we really want this type of abuser as a representative of the USA in our ranks?

I know this type of behavior would have been prosecuted when I was in the USMC and I wouldn't have let such behavior pass as accepted. The USMC has now been banned from Taiwan for continued sexual abuse and rape of local woman and has set a bad image to all of South East Asia for the USMC and other services.

singleviking,

In my lifetime of the USMC, drug store clerk, deputy sheriff and corrections Lieutenant I have seen sexual abuse in all of those work areas. One needs only to read the newspapers to see it in EVERY profession including clergy. It happens everywhere. I have no idea what specific grievances you have about the Marine Corps, whether it is the whole Corps or if a single Marine did something to you or one of yours. I also have never heard that the USMC is banned from Taiwan. Even more incredible is your claim that the USMC Officers condone bad behavior. That is just BS.

I am amazed you pick my birthday greetings to fellow USMC brothers and sisters to spout your views of sexual abuse in the USMC. I have heard nothing of the charges to which you speak and it pisses me off you choose a day honoring 238 years of honor courage and commitment of the USMC to speak to your petty grievances.

6 rape cases in Okinawa and now the USMC has been banned from the island. READ the NEWS from ASIA. You seem to have had your head in the sand for a few years now.
As an ex-USMC officer, I find that the recent number of sexual abuse charges filed by both members of our military as well as the citizenry of countries outside the USA has vastly increased over the years and the Pentagon seems to be impeding all efforts to prosecute such offenses. This is not just a USMC problem though, but the incidents in Okinawa hit me the hardest since it is closest to my location.
The deliberate sweeping of such charges under the rug to protect the careers of the offenders or blaming the victim is definitely not the way to gain trust of victims, local governments or local populations. And this behavior of protecting the guilty has been pervasive in all arms of our military. What ever happened to HONOR, and reflecting an image of integrity to the outside world?
The recent Senatorial and Congressional investigations have only highlighted the flagrant dishonor that this type of behavior and our military justice system seems to overlook as irrelevant. Have we learned nothing from "TAILHOOK"?

I don't think there is more rape. I think there are more people claiming rape. even if the sex is consensual,
and the girl gets pregnant, either she or someone in her family is yelling rape.----------why not , Uncle Sam will tote the bill.

Hey Denise, you have to remember that those who complain about everything would never defend this country and will run like a skunk with their tail between their legs. These cry babies just love showing their negetive and iliterate mind because they never grew up. What a pitty. Maybe they shoul move to a country where there is no freedom.

Typical grunt attitude by an ignorant enlisted puke. Shadow Creation, you are an insult to the integrity of the USMC.First learn to spell or at least use spell-check. Then you can state your opinions no matter how insulting. Unless you served more than 6 years in combat, you might be well served to do as they told you in boot camp and keep your mindless babbling to yourself.

Happy Birthday jarheads (ha-ha) I congradulate each and every one of you. As we all know there will always be a Marine Corps Don't let the idiots get you down--Stand Tall,Be Proud Your One of a FEW. I took 3 marines to breakfast(after a long night testing the local night life) on my sub once and got allot of flack about it later. The old man told me later what I did was OK. We all do the same job,we just wear different uniforms;and you never know when one of those Steely Eyed Marines might have to rescue your ass.
