They are completely different programs. Adobe Illustrator is used by graphic artists to create illustrations. Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop have features that are useful to photographers.

Too bad you're not closer to me. I use illustrator everyday for work (senior designer)...and have been using Lightroom/Camera Raw since 2008 (Photoshop prior to that).

Oh, you are only, what, 1200 miles apart... What's that between friends?

Good online course for Lightroom at ed2go through my community college. Really good course. Also took Adobe Elements course online through ed2go. Now I know how to use both programs. They complement each other. Elements offer more editing options.

lightroom is the easy program...illustrator is the hard one. That one takes years to master. One of the best things my professor taught me, back in '95, when I was taking introduction to Illustrator 3, was to learn key commands, and not depend on clicking on the tools to switch between them. This the best way to become efficient.

Here's the default key command list:

For 90% of my work Lightroom is all that I need except in special cases
where I need photoshop for additional effects or correction.

Skillfeed has eleven Lightroom courses on-line, and are offering a free trial period right now, so you can take the courses without any cost.

The two by Rob Sheppard are excellent and very comprehensive, and I found the one by Nicole Young very helpful for landscape work.
