Snapped these last weekend at the Flagler Museum on Palm Beach.
It was planted in 1887, and is on the property of The Royal Poinciana Chapel, in front of Seagull Cottage.

That's Lake Worth in the background, the buildings are in West Palm Beach

There used to be a resturant outside of Tampa Florida called the Kapok Tree Inn, had wonderful food and the renouned tree was over 16' in diameter in 1968.

Your photo brought back many good memories of a birthday lunch with my Grandfather over the 4th of July weekend in '68.

Thank you for sharing.

Had no idea the size of the tree until I saw the person at the base. A good example why at times you should have somthing in the photo to give the scene a sense of scale.

I love the last shot. The roots look like giant tendrils.

Here's another for scale
The first picture with the sun in the limbs
I was standing at least 50 yards from the tree
It was shot at 26mm, barely got the tree in the frame

This only because someone on another post I saw called this a Kapok tree
It was funny because I recognized the tree right off the bat
It's The Tree of Life at Disney's Animal Kingdom
It's man made

My gosh, a National Treasure! Wonder why we don't hear more about it. Are there more trees like that anywhere?
