Only your words, actions and attitude can determine if you are racist, not what part of the country you live. There are and have been plenty of Southern white supporters of social equality, and this fact is as much acknowledged in the North as it is in the South.
I know that there is just as much racism in the north as there is in the south. When someone ask where I am from, especially from blacks, they assume that I am a racist. My words, actions and attitude had nothing to do with it. I for one support racial equality.
