I am an amateur photographer interested in upgrading from IPhoto; is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 a good choice to store, organize and tweak digital still images and edit videos? Anything you like better?

Thanks in advance for your input!

Don't know about video, but it is the preferred choice for all the rest.

I can't speak to video - I have it, but never use it. Regarding the rest of your question: the answer is a resounding yes.

Thanks! Good to know. Did you inset the tutorial for Lightroom 5 below your response box, or is that some marketing company picking up key words to find sales leads? :)

Likewise about the video, But I think it's about the best out there for Photo touch-up and organizing.

I find LR to be a very useful tool and does a great job organizing my photos. Lots of little tweeks that can be done and using sync to do multiple photos is great. I then send it to CS5 to finish up.

Just be aware that Adobe is switching to a monthly subscription model. May be more expensive in the long run but my real fear is that if you stop subscribing, the software will not work. Does anyone know more about this?

Yes. Highly recommend Lightroom 5. The only thing better that I know of is Photoshop. It does everything that Lightroom does, and much much more.
