I am looking for a new photo printer. The two I am looking at are the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 and R2880. Does anyone have any experience with these printers? Also, are there any other printers I may be overlooking? Thanks in advance.

I would throw in a couple hundred more and get the Canon Pixma Pro 1. Ink is gonna hurt ya in the wallet though. I don't have one yet but it's on my Santa list.

Hi TennisCoach. You might get more response if you used an appropriate title rather than your handle. Just a thought.

I had the same thought. I hate when a thread is not started with a little more detail. "HELP" comes to mind.

Or "Question" or "Opinions Please" or .....

Well anyway, a LOT more info would be helpful. Do you want to print 4 X 6's for your home album or 16 X 20 giclee quality archivals?

Mainly 4 X 6, 5 X 7, and 8 X 10. Depending on the photo, no larger than 13 X 19.

The other question I have, and forgot to put it in my original question, with these printers, can you do normal printing as well as photo printing?

According to PC Mag, you won't find much better.

If by "normal" printing you mean text based, yes and no. Photo printers are designed specifically to print..... photos! :) You would have to convert text documents to a graphic mode first. If you have need for that, I think some of the Pixma printers will do, or for text-type stuff there are many many very cheap alternatives.

Also on document/text printing most all in ones have a setting where you just use the black ink. Saves the color inks. And we all know how much ink costs. I think I saw an article and quality ink works out to about $128 per gallon. So don't gripe about the price of gasoline.

I just recently purchased the R3000 to replace my R1800. On the R3000 when doing normal printing such as on plain white paper you have to switch from photo black to mat black and vise a versa. So when you make your paper selection it tells you on the printer monitor screen which black ink to use. So, to answer your question. Yes, you can do normal printing.

I recently changed from Canon 9000 to an Epson R3000. Very pleased with it. I'm using it with a CIS and all is working well so far.
As DEC says, yes you can do "normal" printing, but try to group your printing types together to save on ink loss due to changes. I have an A4 printer to cover most of my text printing. Just a cheep Canon Pixma, but it does the job.

I do my printing (photos) on an Epson3880 pro and while it does print text documents and such ("normal") just fine, I do not use it for that, for that I use one of my other printers.
It did it again, I have no idea, how that smiley face got in there, it did that once to me before and I can not remove it.

No, I have an inexpensive Samsung laser for text printing.
Color ink is expensive. I don't want to waste it on text.

Right! Thought I would see a tan, muscular body in skimpy shorts.

I have had the Epson R2880 for five years and like the printd. However, every time I change from matte to glossy I have to change black ink. It is a royal pain. Go with the R3800. Both blacks are in it and printer switches for you.
