I think what you write is really good -- really nice simple narratives that introduce your images and that invites us to view your work. You've a gift for that.
You might get a kick out of reading about the 'Gunning fog index'. Google has several listings for it. You are far, far, from needing to apply it.
I used it during my working days to measure written stuff that was written by people under my supervision. It worked and most people did their best
to avoid a high score.

p.s. something like that could be applied to photography. That could be fun!!!!!

Lovely bird shots Joe.

The day was heavy overcast, drizzling and windy. As Winnie the Pooh would say. "It's a blustery day in the Hundred Acre Woods." Perfect. A typical day to stay at home with a hot chocolate and your feet up. Wrong.
Days such as these bring out fantastic saturation in colors and backgrounds. Which brings me to the title. If you're a bird photographer then getting a good image of your subject is paramount but there are three crucial elements to a good composition. Bird, perch and the background.
So often I see pictures of birds where the BGs are either white or vivid blue from a clear sky. On overcast days there are so many other choices and especially when your pictures are taken in a mixed forest. Needless to say I met no one else during my session at the marsh and this gave me the privacy required to set my subjects in positions where the BG colors complimented the birds. Since I can't position the bird, I'm the one that will have to move in order to acquire a BG to my liking. Here are some from today where I set out to do just that.
There are a series of seven photographs in this set. The first two show the conditions and environment and the last five are of my subjects with backgrounds that I chose.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll answer what I'm capable of.

Wish I could come up with a new adjective to describe these, but the only ones I know won't do them justice. I will say I'm jealous. I wish I could take photos in poor light but the Sigma 150-500 is not a low light lens & the T2i shows lots of noise at iso 1600 & a crop. I'll either have to wait till I'm rich or for the sun to come out again; which ever comes first.

This is an interesting comment. So many are under the impression that you have to be rich to take good pictures and I disagree. I will admit that you have to have a good camera body and a good lens. My suggestion is that you buy one of each and then learn your equipment so you can play it like a fiddle. Then learn your subject that you're going to photograph. When you have a thorough knowledge of both your pictures will turn out to your satisfaction. I often see folks who have a cupboard full of equipment and rarely learn how to use any of it effectively. I've often thought of the ones who list their stuff in their profiles, and most of it is second rate, that the money it cost, could have been better spent on getting one good combination. Equipment envy, in photography is often self destructive. The buyer hasn't learned the last piece of equipment before he/she is on to the next one. Anyway, that's my viewpoint for what ever it's worth.
