I have enjoyed seeing moon shots on the site but I have never really tried it my self. This AM I went out to get the paper and saw this beautiful full moon. Not really knowing how to set my settings I just did the following. The cameral was handheld as it did not want to take the time to get my tripod out and perhaps lose sight of the moon. Helpful hints will help and I will try again tonight or tomorrow AM.
#1 F/5.6, ISO 200, 1/1500sec. #2 F5.6, ISO 200, 1/2000 sec. #3 F/f.6, ISO 200, 1/1000 sec. #4 F/8, ISO 200, 1/60 sec. #1-3 I had it set to "S" and #4 to "A".

1 has an overall warm cast and 3 is more accurate but 1 is more pleasing

The trick to capturing full moon shots is to shoot moonrise on the day (or 2 days) BEFORE the full moon. The sun will still be high enough to add some illumination the the landscape. This will allow you to get some detail in the landscape and proper exposure on the moon as well.

Can I ask the focal length of the lens? Is it a long telephoto?

First moon shots with SX50HD... on auto. Still new at this.

Although Image Stabilizing does a good job (handheld), I direly need a tripod.

Nicely done. I really like the color cast in the first shot, and with the trees silhouetted in the last. Good job!

#1 is the keeper.#2 & 3 don't have enough of the landscape to really bring the moon out. I think #4 is just too over-exposed.

Thanks for all the input. I used my 18-200mm lens on this. I also have a 400mm lens packed away so I will have that one ready next time.

Thanks. The 400 would probably give it that extra 'reach', but for a 200, they aren't bad at all.
