Sorry, I haven't kept up with todays photo's....but I did take this tonight.....already posted it on another thread, so sorry if you've seen it already!
My goodness that's a big moon!! Very nice Tracey!! I tried to take one tonight, but my longest lens is a 250mm. That and I kept getting a double reflection. Any advice on how to keep from getting the reflection? Honestly, if I could give you advice I would. I don't know how, but I just got lucky. I think maybe your lens isn't strong enough, but really I'm not the person to ask. This was the second shot of the moon I've ever taken. All I can tell you is what my settings were...hope they help...Lens Canon 100-400 L IS series....ISO 200 f/9 shutter speed 1/400 Manual setting with AWB..hand held...that IS really works! The only thing I messed with was the ISO, and I found 200 to be the best for me. Good luck hope this helped!

It was so dark under that plane that none of them came out :( It was around 3pm so it never dawned on me to adjust the camera LOL duhhhhhhhhh
Photogrl...think your rubbing off on me...had to lay down to get a few of these. I am posting the original and PP...if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know....
My husband and I went for a late walk and saw this really neat ring around the moon and I had to try and get a photo of it. I definitely didn't capture the true beauty of it but had to try...I tried everything to include the entire ring but I just couldn't get low enough and I don't have a lens that is wide enough....

LOL I love it ... wish I could have seen you laying on the ground shooting the moon :) ... what were the camera settings ?[/quote]
I am proud of the fact that I actually used Manual setting...
Canon Rebel T3 hand held f/9 ISO 800 18mm lens WB-auto and shutter speed was 10 sec.

If I can add my two cents here, I have a canon sx30IS and if it is foggy or damp out at all, a lot of moisture in the air, as seems to be the case when the moon has a ring around it, I get reflections and the camera won't focus and all kinds of bizarre things. The camera will zoom in and out by itself and I can't remember everything I have had happen - lol - anyway, I think it is from moisture in the atmosphere, not anything you are doing. I may be wrong, but that is my experience.
Ok if it's not too late to join here are a couple from today. Have not been unable to join until today due to flu like illness.

Thank you, I am positive my lens wasn't strong enough and not sure what one to use..I only have the 18-55mm and the 75-300mm. I knew the zoom one was out. I had the camera on manual setting and had to put the lens on manual also. If I had kept the lens on AF it would have zoomed in and out by itself and not ever focused. I also have a few spots on my lens. I tried to clean them the other day with a lens pen but obviously missed some. Thank you though for your opinion. I appreciate it.

Sorry I quoted the wrong person in my reply - that was meant as a possible explanation for Skipt07 having reflections and such in his photos.
But that AF is a killer sometimes isn't it? :-) It drove me crazy before I knew what it was - lol
