UPS (BROWN) just delivered the lens (TAMRON 18-270mm) and didn't even open it yet. I see that it does take great pictures, if no good for hockey it's still a great lens to have. Thanks you for your input, sweet pictures by the way.

Have the Tamron 18-270mm and it's the lens that seldom leaves my camera. Granted it's a 3.5-6 so like any other zoom of that range it's not good in low light. Don't know about your camera but I have a Nikon D7000 that it seldom leaves and I understand your weight issue with the 70-200,2.8. What you might want to save for in the future is the 24-70mm,2.8 to compliment your 70-200mm. Buy from a reputable dealer like Adorama and they should have a 30 day money back guarantee so try it for 30 days and if it doesn't fit your needs take it back. Good luck and I'll show a few photos using that lens........

Dear Brooklyn: The Tammy will be a great walk around lens - and I bet you have it on your camera whenever you take a vacation, or are out for a lark.
But come hockey time - bet you're back to the 70-200 f/2.8 with a quick-adjust monopod.
Congrats on your new lens :D
I'll bet you WILL like it.

See, she has you fooled.

If you mean by wanting me have anything that makes me happy, without guilt or any expectations on her part, than I guess you are correct.

Here's another option:

you can rent the lens for a few days for $26, or a full week for $38. That way you can try it out and see if you like it before you commit $400+ for it.

Have you given any thought to using a mono pod to hold the camera?

[quote=Brooklyn-Camera]Thinking of getting myself this lens: Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 DI-II VC PZD Piezo Drive Ultrasonic Motor Aspherical (IF) AF Zoom, for Canon EOS Digital SLRs

For shooting in doors and different lighting condition I would not recommend this lens. I have the same lens and I do not use it inside unless lighting is exceptionally or I can use a flash. I have the Canon 70 200 f4 that works inside a lot better. I bought Tamaron from a person that tried to shoot soccer under lights with it and did not like it for that. I use it some for a walk around but now that I have the 70 200 I do not use it very much. Go to search and check the comments on this lens.

For baseball & football it works great. But for hockey and lacrosse I need to be able to move fast and follow the action. The mono-pod holds me back. Thanks for your input...

Im not sure how that holds one back. Most sports shooters using 200mm and up lenses, affix them to monopods and consistently land SI covers.

Practice makes perfect.

First two shot via free hand, baseball via a mono-pod. All shot with the SIGMA 70-200mm f 2.8 lens. Didn't shoot any sports yet with the TAMRON 18-270mm f3.5-6.3. When I do I'll post a few to compare how it shoots. Thanks for your input.....
