The top one does a much better job of showing the kunzite color. I have faceted a pink kunzite, they can be a PAIN! But turn out beautiful!!! I would refuse to facet such a beautiful specimen on matrix, also...
Go get a piece of facet grade rough with no matrix, and no inclusions. Inclusions in kunzite cause a lot of headache when faceting.

I like # 3 best because of the reflection. Is there any way you can get a more complete mirror image? It just seems to fade at the bottom.

Hi Indi thanks for checking out my post and your right , it does fade out and distorts, thats because I'm just using a plain clear glass and I get a double refraction from the top and bottom sides of the glass surface, a mirror would work better but if you check out my post, Natures Art #15 you will see the advice I got from another member on what is called a surface mirror to get an absolute perfect reflection.

Hello DougS, This is great, so you faceted some Kunzite so being so brittle and with inclusions had to be an issue, I heard working with this stuff is tricky because of it's perfect cleavage, I haven't done any lapidary work in years, and now i'm looking for some Hiddenite on matrix.Do you find some good clean rough, good ct. size?

#1, like the angle showing the end of the piece. Thanks for the info on the lightbox, had no idea they were that cheap. Just looked them up on Amazon, can't believe you get all that for only $36!

Hi wrr, your right, because of the nature of the Kunzite when you view it from the end of the crystal the color is really nice and bright, you will have fun with that lightbox.

I rarely facet now... sorry about the amethyst. I get my best rough from Rocksaholics, they have some museum quality down to ordinary mineral specimens, faceted and facet rough. They are Pakistan natives and American citizens now. They go to the Tucson, Az. rock show in February, and a few other rock shows as well. They have some amazing rocks!

I just recieved this Kunzite crystal on Quartz( and what I believe to be traces of green tourmaline) from a mine in the Shigal Valley in northern Pakistan, I take photos for fun and for my inventory and I only need one to go in the book, out of all the pics these are the final three that it's come down to and I would like to get your feelings on which one is the most appealing to the eye, the Kunzite crystal is 2" long, this would make a beautiful faceted gemstone.

I like them all ! #2 pops, but #1 shows the green too. Since you are the expert here, I just wasted your time (except to say "BEAUTIFUL").

Oh, this one makes me sick...WAIT WAIT WAIT!
Just sick, because it reminds me of the huge, unmounted, faceted, amethyst my mother had that her sister sneaked in her house and took when my mom was dying in a hospital. My mother had plans for that to be mine. It was like the really deep purple oval one at the top of the group.

Hi Horseart, first I have to say I'm no expert and you are not wasting my time I am so happy when people comment on my post, even just to say they like it, and sorry to hear of your loss and about the gem though that one was a sentimental piece you can find amethyst gem stones at a very reasonable price, check them out on Ebay.

Hello DougS, I bet you have some nice gems from your past work, I have a few thousand ct. of just about everything that can be faceted including some clean Rhodochrosite, Kyanite,Dioptase ect. My dream is to hit the Tucson show some day, I hear it's amazing.

Thanks Howie, yes, I know they are 1000 times more beautigul than expensive, but my mother inherited that one from my grandmother along with some loose rubies and diamonds. More valuable to me than anyone else.
I stayed at a place called the Gem Motel in Waynesville NC, one time (when I went there for a horse show, years ago) and had a gem shop there. Oh wow! They had a huge piece of amethyst, almost the size of a dinner plate and asked $37.50. I came so close to buying it. For a fee, they let you go in the mines and find your own rocks. I was afraid I'd get addicted! LOL!
