Been using Logitech wireless mice on several computers - my desktop, portable and laptop and my wife's laptop - for more years than I can remember. Batteries change maybe once a year +/- and quite easy. I have no Mac's so can't speak to their use of wireless. One other thing about wireless - you don't need to be within the reach of the wire to use them

Jerry, I use a Logitech M 305. Had it for years & can't fault it. It uses one AA battery. I use my computer a lot, never turn the mouse off, & get about 6 weeks from a battery (& that is with budget price batteries). Can't remember what I paid for it, but I think it was around twenty something.

I don't play games, so I don't need a super mouse (Mighty Mouse? :D)
Jerry, in my opinion, wireless is the way to go. I have had a good number of them over the years, not because they go bad or anything, but I just have too many computers.
At any rate, your battery concern is valid if you get the wrong mouse. I have had several which I have had to turn off, to keep from changing batteries every month or so. I have also had a few that would go over six months without ever turning off. I would suggest a trip to Best Buy etc. and check the packaging. The good ones should tell about the battery life. Also, look for one with a short dongle. Some of the old ones stick out a little too much.

The dongle will be behind the monitor in the KVM switch, so it's basically invisible.
I use a wireless Dell KM632. It uses two AA's that last a long time, and I never turn it off. I'm left handed and it works fine for me.
Jerry, I bought the Logitech wireless "anywhere" mouse that doesn't have a rollerball and can be used on almost any surface. I downloaded its app and customized its speed and buttons. I've paired it with my MacBook Pro and sometimes it does lose its signal , but then you just take the small receiver in/out of your USB port and it's fine. I don't think that would happen on a PC. I bought a Logitech gaming mouse at first because of the sensitivity it has for fine detail work. But that mouse was like a Mack truck in my hand and your palm position was cupped over the entire mouse rather than holding it by the claw method. My hand soon became tired and we all know that can't happen when editing large batches. Again,I'm comfortable with my Anywhere MX mouse that I actually got from Walmart for around $50. Good luck!
Hi Jerry, I have used a Kensington K72345 wireless mouse for some time now. It is very neat approx 1.25" wide and about 2.25" long so it fits neatly in the palm of you hand, the batteries last for ages and last longer if I remember to switch it off. I has a nano usb receiver so you can hardly see it as it only sticks out about about 10mm, its works on most surfaces, also if you buy a Kensington wireless keyboard, it will use the same nano usb receiver.
They are available from Scan computers here in the UK for less than £6, so I expect they will cost less in the US.
Cheers, John

That sounds like a winner, although it is for only right-handed people. If I ever have a lefty come over to use my computer, well... :D
I like being able to leave it turned on, and I've never seen one that takes two batteries.
EDIT: I see Staples has it on sale for $30, rather than $50, and I have a $10 coupon!

I use a Logitech mouse I bought at Walmart for about $20.00 a few years ago (forgot the model number). It uses 1 AA battery that lasts me about 9 months because I usually forget to turn it off, but the battery is the only issue I have with the mouse.
If you go into Control Panel you should have a Mouse icon that allows you to set up your pointer devices for either right or Left hand use.

I use a Logitech Optical Mouse and have had it for about three years....I just got into the habit of turning it off and on when I turn the laptop off and on...Its become such second nature that I don't even think about it anymore and I have only changed the batteries maybe three times total. There are some out there that have a cradle to store them in that also recharge the batteries each time. I like being able to use almost any surface to put the mouse on and not tied to a mouse pad. Mine also has the scrolling wheel which is a convenience I cherish. The model number is M505.
