Yeah, it's hard to take photos when you are "in hiding"!

Great. Fall colors are vibrant. Use bright sun settings and vibrant for photos should work. Or put the camera, if possible, into automatic and see what it does.

Good for you. If you look in the search section at the top of the page and type best books for cannon rebel, you should get an idea of the best ones to buy. Enjoy the hike.

Read the manual with camera in hand and try out each item read. Then read it again. Then have fun and we look forward to your great shots!

Congratulations on your upgrade to the DSLR - I too got my used Rebel 350d kit not too many months ago it included 18-55 and 100-300 kit lens and I am having a great time with it. The manual is very good and I did get a good used book as a supplement from Amazon ( books on older equipment are plentiful and inexpensive)
I just spent a full day shooting fall colors (270 photos ) in auto and was quite pleased with 90%.
I used the 18-55 almost exclusively and a CPL about 50% of the shots.

Please post some results of your captures soon.
Harvey

Some folks don't realize they skipped over giving a general location which I am sure was the posters question - not their home address and phone number.
