I use a Nikon MB-D80 and I have never had any problems. Usually shoot some 300 pictures and then recharge one of the batteries. Love this set up with a 16 gig card in the camera and another in my pocket just in case. Never used the spare card or run out of battery power.

Not sure if the MB-D80 will fit your camera. I believe that one is for the D80 camera. I'm sure that the bottom of the 5200 is different. There are some knock offs, but if Nikon makes one for that camera, I would purchase it. I am sure others on here can chime in with more knowledge of grips.

I hadn't thought about that. Mine is on a D90.

just a word of caution, my business partner got an off name brand one for his 5200, and it has never worked right. I use Nikon for my D-200 and D-7000, and they both work flawlessly. When he uses his, he has to keep removing it and putting it back on, because his camera freezes. Sent back the first one, and the second does the same thing. Frankly, I'd just get some extra batteries if I couldn't afford the Nikon. It is easier to switch batteries, than to remove and put the aftermarket holder on and off.

Although I use Canon, I have used the POLAROID Battery Packs and they work great. I've had three of them and not a problem with any of them. You will save a lot of $$ also.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE aftermarket items. I just wanted to share what I knew about the 5200, and it not seeming to like the aftermarket grips.

I've used a Zeikos ZE-NBG300 on my D300s for 3 years now and never had a problem. Even Thom Hogan uses third party battery grips. You need to get the grip made for your camera model, B&H Photo sells the Vello BG-N6 for the D5200, price is $60. There are a few others that are cheaper. Watch some youtube videos about the D5200 battery grips and see what the users have to say.

I've used the Vello battery grips on all my Nikons and have never had had an issue in the 3 years I've had them. Talked to the guy at B&H and he initally told me they were the best bang for the buck which was good enough for me. I eventually bought 3 of them and was still way cheaper than one from Nikon. Yes you do pay more for the name........

Mieke makes a great inexpensive battery grip for the 5200. I bought the 5100 grip for my d5200 camera and it also works just fine.

Here's were I got my grip:
