A Killdeer story
A few years ago a nesting Killdeer laid her four eggs in a grassy area of the local cemetery. The cemetery keeper knew of the nest and was concerned for the nesting bird when a burial service was planned at site very close by to the Killdeer and her eggs. The keeper staked off the nest and made the attending people aware of the nest. The Killdeer accepted the situation and a few days later her four eggs hatched. However, after the hatching she left the cemetery taking her four young hatch-lings with her

A Ruby crowned Kinglet
My first sighting encounter with a Kinglet was a total mystery to me as to what species the bird was. My first guess was a female American Goldfinch as its drab, dull brownish colouring seemed to be similsr to a female Goldfinch at this time of year. However the mystery bird seemed to have a red or ruby patch of feathers on the top of its head, and the eye of this bird was really noticeable, it was much larger than a goldfinch eye would be. So this mystery instigated an image by image search of the pictures in my bird fieldguide book "The Silbley Guide to Birds and it was there that I learned about Ruby-crowned Kinglets.
