Good series. I like the black and white presentation.

Thank you, Bob. I've never done much street photography because I find it awkward. I noticed this individual behind an old church I was photographing. He was turned sideways so I worked up the nerve to take a few quick shots with my telephoto. I appreciate you taking the time to look and comment.

Cool photography, John! What lens did you use?

Thank you, Mark. A Nikon 28-300 3.5-5.6 lens. This is the lens I got with my D700 when I bought it. Not the sharpest lens in my bag but I like the reach. I was about 30 feet away from my subject.

Thank you. I was shooting pictures of a church and he was behind the church smoking. He was turned sideways so I turned and grabbed two quick shots.

Cancer has invaded our lives too, including me. It's an insidious disease.

What I find interesting about your photos is the way the lighting highlights the subject's silhouette. Also the angle of the photo in profile is much more dramatic because of the movement of his arm from one shot to the next. I also like that you chose B&W because the emphasis is on the movement of the arm and finally the smoke. Well done!!

Thank you for your kind words and detailed analysis. This is only the second time I've tried street photography so your precise feedback is extremely helpful. I appreciate you taking the time.

bravo for trying something new for you and out of your comfort zone. It takes a bit of nerve and boldness to do street photography as it can be confrontational. I think you did well: simple subject, non cluttered, told the story. Addictions of any kind take their toll.

Thanks, carlysue.

Your assessment of street photography requiring nerve and boldness because it can be confrontational is my perception also. The only two I've done were just lucky catches while I was photographing something else. I could never go out specifically to do street photography but greatly admire those who can.
