I would favor a retailer, and let them take the profit.

More to the point, I would try to purchase from my local "Brick and Mortar" Retail Camera Store. Yes, I might pay a little more, but I have the (personal) satisfaction of interacting with a "real person"--- and I keep my dollars local-- at least for a while.

I realize, of course, not everyone has access to such a store. I have one within walking distance-- so I'm quite happy with that arrangement.

And, no, I don't access their customer service-- and then buy online.

There is a local place not too far from you over in Northern KY. K&R is where I have bought several items never had a problem. B&H.. can't say anything bad about them.

Marcomarks, thanks for the update on your experience with your camera purchase. Seems like some people care less about their jobs and customer service (satisfaction) than other places of business that sell the same product. When I ran a business, customer service was prime and we did well. When sales go down they may wonder why. Looks like B&H and Adorama or other reputable retailer may be the place to purchase in the future.

I had a retail store just slightly north of Toledo and my brother had one in Toledo. We provided service, rentals, sales, knowledge and advice, lessons, and everything else we could. That method worked for many years but the marketplace has changed. Now people come in and "use" you for knowledge and advice, go home and order it up on the Internet for about the same price or get duped into an off-brand, and bring the Internet item to you for repair and expect you to loan or rent them yours while the repair is taking place. So a lot of what used to be valuable customer service for YOUR customers or YOUR potential customers has become localized customer service for the customers of online retailers who can't provide it.

I was surprised at my unfortunate experience because you would think a corporation as big as Olympus would have better control of their U.S. operations than that and try to be on top of customer service to the max to enforce their reputation in all ways - especially when battling Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Panasonic for market share. It's just an example of the huge valley-like gap between the big wigs of a corporation and the little guy like us who buys their product. At least a B&H or Adorama depends on customer satisfaction and are only one step away from their customers.

My one and only favorite female cousin lives in Enon. Do you know where that is? Her family lived in Fairborn (they're all passed now). Her and my Fathers and their siblings were raised around Beard Shear (bet you never heard of that one but it's at Stop Eight Rd and I-75). Aunts and Uncles of mine lived down near Grand Ave. (the better part) back in the 1960s and 1970s. Besides that, I was born in Findlay. Just sayin'...

....Adorama are very reputable outlets and have knowledgable sales reps which can help with questions. I have done business with both and have never been disappointed with the products or the customer service I have received.

Very good to see this - thank you!

.....The only difference (if any) between anything I have purchased, is if it is a refurbished from Canon direct, it has a 1 year warranty.

Canon refurbs from Adorama currently also come with a 12-month warranty

.....Nothing wrong at all buying refurbished if its from the camera mfg. themselves in my opinion.

....or, as per Adorama, if the refurbished items have been refurbished by the manufacturer, themselves!

Thanks for responding Helen. It means a lot to me when a big independent like Adorama has someone like you that takes the time to answer questions and respond to customer problems. Having been in business and owning my company we wanted our customers to feel wanted.
