Thank you for advocating the lowly Panasonioc P&S. As I have always said, it's not the equipment, it's the person behind the equipment. These are absolutely wonderful. I think I have seen others of your fungi photos and you keep a consistently high standard.

Thank you Gargleblaster.I agree that a more expensive hammer will not build you necessarily a better house.

Would I be able to use my 100mm L Macro to get descent photos low to the ground ?

My answer is a resolute NO.At least not like #1,2 or#3.Let me explain: 100mm (plus conversion factor) is way way too long for this kind of photography. The only time you could possibly attempt this "under the skirt" angle the mushroom would have to be growing on a stump or to be elevated somehow to give you enough space to back off and to get under.Large mushrooms do not photograph well (as they grow they develop asymmetry, blemishes, etc.) so I photograph mostly very small mushrooms with a small diameter wide angle lens (pocket p&s) which I can rest on the ground pointing up only an inch or two away from the mushroom.I never disturb the mushroom or the surrounding area.

I like your transluscent lighting through the mushrooms. Brings real life into the photos.

These are some of the best mushroom shots I've seen. The lighting is so wonderful some almost seem to have an inner glow.
